Dear Friends:
On behalf of the whole River Rep family please let me extend to you a warm and heart-felt Season’s Greetings and belated Happy Thanksgiving!
All of you have certainly given all of us much to be
thankful for over these past 19 years and it is our
deepest hope that this holiday season finds you happy
and healthy as we turn our eyes to the New Year and
our work ahead. As we continue our careful and considered
search for River Rep’s new home we can’t
help but reminisce about the thrilling summer
we had together! We feel unequivocally that,
of our 19 summers in Connecticut, 2005 was our
most extraordinary season yet. So much of that
success was because of you. As many
of you have heard me say...theatre is a unique art form
because of the enormous collaboration that is required
to create it. The final, and ultimately most important,
aspect of that collaboration happens when each of you
arrive at the theatre. It is when the audience sits
down to experience that creation that it comes to life.
Our “ride” together this summer was so gratifying, and
we are forever thankful to you for making great
theatre with us!
Many things contributed to our feeling of deep
satisfaction and pride in the 2005 season.
We challenged ourselves with truly great dramatic
literature, we deepened our commitment
and attention to production values, we brought
to Connecticut another extraordinary list of
professional theatre artists, we had the
largest and finest intern company since the
inception of the program, and the core River Rep
company [myself, Evan, Joan, Owen, Jenn, Stephen,
and Arthur], had the deep honor of getting to
share so much of our work with you, our core audience!
If you haven’t done
so already, I’d like to personally request that you complete
our 2005 post-season survey. Your response to River Rep’s work this
past summer — in the theatre, on the
steps after the performances; in hundreds of letters,
phone calls, and emails; in opinions expressed to the
editors of many Shoreline publications; and in countless
impromptu conversations that took place virtually all
over the state — has assured River Rep
that what we bring to Connecticut, and what we share
with each of you, is something to be treasured.
As we look to the future and the enormously exciting transition that lies ahead — and the tremendous amount of work that this move will take — we are “fueled” by two things: our deep passion for making theatre and your overwhelming support of our endeavors.
Our work towards the move is a very exciting process.
Our phenomenally dedicated Search
Committee continues to find a wide variety of venues
for us to consider. This exploration has been
so “eye-opening.” Not only has it given
us the opportunity to clarify what exactly it is that
River Rep does and what we have accomplished, but also
even more importantly, what is possible
for River Rep! With each report from Jean,
Nancy, Jackie, Rick, and Arthur...ideas spring up about
ways in which we can deepen and expand our charter.
Please trust that we have a wonderful future
ahead and many seasons of exciting theatre-going for
all of us to share. Your many questions have
been answered in the FAQ
section of this newsletter. Keep ’em coming!
We love to hear from you and, as always,
pledge to get back to you as quickly as we can. And
truly, there are no words to express our deep gratitude
to you for your dedication to that future.
See you on River Rep’s new steps in 2006!
Very sincerely,
