A Message from Warren Kelley,
Our Artistic Director

February 2007

Dear River Rep Friends & Supporters:

I am so thrilled to announce the news that River Rep is coming home to the Connecticut River Valley in the summer of 2007! Taking a “sabbatical” summer last year gave us the necessary time to plan the next important chapter, but all the while we knew we had to find a way to spend this summer with you!

As you know, we are in the negotiation and planning stages of establishing our residency at The Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook. This new home will afford us the development opportunities we have long been looking for. We are working closely with First Selectman Mike Pace and the town of Old Saybrook to open this wonderful new theatre in the summer of 2008! The future is bright indeed.

In the meantime, while we wait for the Arts Center to complete its renovation, we have had a wonderful invitation to produce this summer at The Chester Meeting House! Conveniently located just down the road in the beautiful town of Chester, this historic and charming theatre is the perfect intimate space in which to reunite with our beloved audience. Here we will share, face to face, all the exciting developments and plans for our 2008 Premiere Summer Season at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center.

Logistics dictate we can only do an extended run of a single production. So what’s the ideal show to celebrate our homecoming? The hilarious romantic comedy The Foreigner has been delighting audiences across the country since it first made a splash off-Broadway in 1984. Indeed, it wowed early River Rep audiences back in 1988 and has been one of our most requested revival titles ever since! We are positive that this truly side-splitting comedy, featuring all your favorite River Rep faces, will provide the perfect summer evening’s entertainment.

The Meeting House has only about half of the seats that we normally sell, so seating will be extremely limited. As a result, you will be among the first to be able to buy tickets — they’ll go on sale in April. Until then, I hope you’ll start using the resources on our website to start planning your trip to Chester. Directions, a seating chart [PDF], and ticket information are available to make it as easy as possible for you to find us this summer. We are also planning our first-ever Opening Night Gala, set for Thursday, July 26th, with River Rep leading lady and ardent supporter Katharine Houghton serving as Honorary Chair. If you’d like to receive an invitation, get more information, or get involved, please e-mail us at galainfo@riverrep.com.

Our commitment to provide inspired theatre that is both professional and personal is stronger than ever! There has never been a better time to pledge your support to River Rep Theatre Company with a tax-deductible gift. I know that together we can build a tremendous future, and we hope you will continue to find ways to support us through your generosity and attendance.

So mark your calendars and start counting the days! Summer’s just around the corner, and we look forward to seeing each and every one of you on the steps of... The Meeting House!

With great fondness and anticipation,

Warren Kelley
