River Rep Theatre Company
Sets Its Sights
on Old Saybrook

As the River Rep Theatre Company prepares for its 2007 summer season at The Chester Meeting House, it draws nearer to its goal of becoming the resident summer theatre at the Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center in Old Saybrook in June 2008!

The town has received a new set of bids for the renovation of the old town hall, as reported in The Hartford Courant on February 8th, which should dramatically speed the process of creating the new performing space. At the same time, cordial negotiations between RRTC and the Town of Old Saybrook, headed by First Selectman Mike Pace, are ongoing.

River Rep looks at performing in Old Saybrook as an exciting opportunity. The Center’s location on Main Street, amid many shops and restaurants and an easy walk from nearby marinas and the AMTRAK station, offers an array of entertainment, dining, and shopping to Shoreline residents and tourists alike. “We are thrilled at the thought of being an important part of Old Saybrook’s Main Street appeal,” said longtime RRTC Managing Director Joan Shepard. “Our patrons are sure to enjoy all that the town has to offer and we can’t wait for the Center to be ready.”

A celebrity fundraising committee, co-chaired by stage and screen star Lauren Bacall and TV anchorwoman Cynthia McFadden, and including River Rep leading lady Katharine Houghton, was formed in 2006 and has been working diligently ever since.
